Hugh Jackman Discusses His Love for Playing Wolverine in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Actor Hugh Jackman, who is garnering positive acclaim for his latest superhero film Deadpool & Wolverine, has opened up about what he cherishes most about portraying the iconic character of Wolverine.

In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Jackman revealed that he finds the human aspect of Wolverine to be more compelling than his claws or healing abilities. He stated, “One of my best friends told me, ‘You have a reservoir of rage in there? That is terrifying.’ But (playing Wolverine) is the best therapy ever. I never feel more free than playing Wolverine.”

The actor described the character as both different and similar to him, noting, “In many ways, on the surface, he’s different from me, yet there are so many parts of him that I love. There are aspects of him that I’m thrilled about and parts that I’m not like, but I love living in that character.”

Jackman also drew a parallel between Wolverine and Deadpool, stating that both characters are trapped in a shame spiral, albeit handling it in different ways. “I find the human part of him more interesting than even the claws or the healing ability because that’s where the rage comes from,” he added.

Deadpool & Wolverine is the 34th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and serves as a sequel to Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018). Directed by Shawn Levy, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Aaron Stanford, and Matthew Macfadyen.

In this film, Deadpool teams up with a reluctant Wolverine from another universe to thwart the Time Variance Authority from destroying his universe. The film successfully integrates Deadpool into the MCU while maintaining the R rating of its predecessors.
